The emotional roller coaster

Ok, so here are the links to the videos we made last night. Let me preface by saying that we are usually not the type of parents who find great pleasure in the distress of our child but we just couldn't help ourselves. The first two clips are perfect examples of the downward spiral I mentioned in the last post. We discovered this by accident when Wes was just playing around at the table. Once we saw the reaction it received we had to get it on camera. The last one is to show you that Jay forgave his daddy and all was well just a few moments later. Mimi and Mama Ross, we are very sorry to hurt your baby's feelings but you will have all week to make sure we didn't scar him for life. And, it was ALL Wes' idea. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np8Cmc99800 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8YjhMXzF0k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc4zn0n9zsg

A father and his son

We have been very lazy this week so I have no "fun" pictures to show. I do have some precious ones of Wes and Jay from yesterday. Jay loves it when Wes comes home and is totally entertained to just sit beside him and stare. He is a wild man all day with me and then turns into a sweetheart when his daddy comes home...go figure. Well, he is a sweetheart until about 6:30, at which time the "downward spiral of emotions" begin. Just to give you a glimpse into this daily activity, I will post a few videos from last night. Even so, I love when Wes comes home and I get to watch the two clones play and love on each other. It is an amazing thing...how even as a tiny 8 month old, Jay already idolizes his father....a perfect gift from God.
Not to leave out the other giant sweetheart in the house....
Precious moments....
These next few are just to show you how well Jay is pulling up and standing with support. He immediately looks for something to pull up on every time we put him on the floor.

What a Weekend!!

Jay and I are still recovering from all of the activity the last few days. Jay got a visit from Papa Rich this weekend and had a ball with playing with someone who was willing to stoop to his level. ;) Also, Rachel was in town and added to the fun! The big event of the weekend was going to the fair. Jay was mesmerized by all of the sounds, people, lights, and rides. We were there for several hours and way past his bedtime (and dinner time) but he didn't notice. We laughed at his expressions the whole time, especially when he was glued to the group of women dancing on stage! We made it home around 10pm but Jay was no where ready for bed. He stayed up until 11 playing until I finally forced him to admit he was tired! He took a long nap on Saturday and then stayed up until after 11 again watching football. This morning he slept until 830 (he usually wakes around 630) and I bet will take some more long naps today. He was a good sport though, even with the huge interruption of his schedule he took it all in stride. Here are pictures from the weekend... Cheezin' with Papa Rich after the fun Friday night! The genius banker spent 18 dollars to win a 75 cents inflatable bat for his grandson!
Singing along with Montgomery Gentry....
Bank at BB&T!!! We should get paid for this great advertising.
Some of Jay's favorite people... So serious....

Lunch fun

We have a new game during lunch now.....Jay thinks it is sooo much fun. :) Again, sorry for the link, blogger is not my friend right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah5JiNm_w90

Random fun

We are just out and about in these. Jay is becoming an event every time we go out to eat. He yells, hits things, throws things, and climbs over everything. We are now limited only to the zoo, the circus, a dance club would probably work, or any other place that total chaos is completely
normal.....

Enjoying the fall

Here are some pictures of us out the other day. I tried to take advantage of the fall decor and had mini photo shoots everywhere we went. Jay didn't really get it.....still, I thought he was a cutie. :)

Our little bulldog...

Jay was learning how to eat peach puffs the other day. He hated them at first, then he realized they were pretty tasty when he held them in his mouth. It just took a few tries before he understood the idea of chewing.

(Sorry I had to post just the link again, this video thing is very tempermental!)

Jay meets a lemon...

A few weeks ago we decided to see what would happen when Jay ate a lemon....Baron caught it on his camera.

This was actually the second time he tried one, the first was with Lyz and Fran but we didn't have our cameras then. This was almost as funny though. :)

Look who's crawling!

Look who's crawling!

Jay is officially crawling now and it only took a month of "bootcamp" and the laptop, of course. The room was full of his toys but those were apparently not worth his trouble....the laptop, though, now that was worth it!

Our back yard.

Wes and I have been working in the yard for 3 days and now we can actually walk down to the pond without sliding down a pile of straw! This is just to show off our hard work. :) Jay was a great supervisor, as you can tell.
By the way, my sweetheart is 8 months old today!!! He officially crawled yesterday but stopped after he realized what he was doing. If he's distracted (following after a toy) he can crawl but if he thinks about it too hard he just sits up and gives up. I guess he just has to get the hang of it now.

Quality Control

Dear readers, It has come to my attention that my blogger's outside interests have begun causing concerns in my revenue flow. I take this very seriously and have warned her that she can be replaced if there is no improvement in the volume and quality of the posts. Applications for this position can be mailed here. Applicants must like large dogs and poop. Dr. Ross

Seriously...

I just thought he was too cute in these jeans not to take a picture!
He carried this around in his mouth all day! haha
Sorry for the last two posts.....I was getting revenge on my dear father's attempt to see more of his grandson. :) In all seriousness, I have been a poor blogger lately. I have several cute videos that I have been trying to download since Wed but they won't work so here is the link to where you can watch it on youtube. They are short but cute ones of Jay saying "dada" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcNgNJjJy5M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8et0Wpk9hE As for our accomplishments this week, we are getting closer to crawling but still with no official "crawl" yet. I am really starting to feel bad for him though because he now understands that he can crawl he just can't find the right moves to do it. He wants to so bad so I know it's just a matter of time. He has become very efficient at scooting across the floor though. He is pulling up on everything now and I get a sweet smile every morning when I walk in his room. He is always pulled up looking over the side of the crib just waiting for me to walk in. When I do, his whole face lights up. He usually gets so excited that he looses his balance and falls over but it's sooo cute! He was very good yesterday while Wes and I spent all afternoon at Lowes and then in the yard doing some landscaping. He sat in his tree swing and clapped, laughed, and yelled while we worked. He played right through his nap so when we went to get some ice cream after dinner he slept on Wes's shoulder the whole time. Usually he won't miss a minute of adventures outside of the house so this was pretty funny to us. That's all I can think of for now. I'll see what pictures I have to post before you all take your business elsewhere. ;)

dissatisfied customers...

It has come to my attention that some very loyal patrons are not satisfied with the quality of posting lately. Your opinion is greatly valued. My apologies. I neglected to keep my priorities in order. From now on I will live by the following priorities... 1) narrate on the blog 2) put pictures on the blog 3) download lengthy video clips on the blog 4) feed the baby 5) play with the baby 6) change the baby's diaper In lieu of my unacceptable behavior, I am giving all of "Jay's Blog" patrons one year free subscription.

Peanut Gallery...

Found when opening my email messages this morning... "I have been a loyal customer of your blog since its inception and hope to be one for years to come. I feel compelled to bring to your attention the seemingly infrequency of your new blogs is causing me to consider canceling my subscription to it. After ten days of your last entry, I noticed a short video clip today with absolutely no narrative. Talk about mailing it in. Obviously your publisher or editor, if not both have no desire to entertain senior citizens. It troubled me to realize that the frequency of the blogs slowed considerably after I reached the dreaded demographic (nice use of alliteration) of 55 and older. Thank you for your consideration to this request of returning to the quality of blog I signed up to receive. Love, Jay's Papa Rich."

crawling boot camp

This week we have been trying to get our impatient baby to crawl. He gets up on all fours and rocks as hard as he can, like he's trying to propel himself forward. When that doesn't work, instead of focusing more and trying again, he plops onto his tummy and yells in anger. How do you teach a 7 month old perseverance??? Wes can't stand it...he'll get down on the floor with Jay and crawl around and then take his legs and try to get him to crawl, usually ending in Jay going face first onto the floor and not happy about it. Typical dad, I guess, wanting his son to be the most advanced and talented around! Wes wasn't even worried about it (babies usually start crawling between 7 and 10 months) until he came home the other day and saw Truman (about 2 weeks older than Jay) crawling around like he was a pro and Jaybird just laying on his back clapping, perfectly content with be the laziest baby on the earth! After that, Wes entered Jay into bootcamp. So far, it has not worked.
Jay is starting to pull himself up and stand with assistance. The other day I walked in and saw him standing on the edge of his crib just waiting for someone to come in and see him. When he saw me he was so excited he lost his balance and slammed his head into the crib, resulting in a very angry baby. I posted a few pics of Jay "standing" in the living room the other day.
We have seen Wes a lot this week which is always nice. He is finished with the VA this month and is now on infectious disease. There is no call with this one but I think he will work long hours in the day and some weekends. Yesterday, he got done early so we ate lunch and then walked along the riverwalk for a while. It was so pretty outside so Jay loved watching the trees, water, people, and dogs run around. He is definitely a “people watcher.”
Jay is watching his baby einstein dvd's right now and loves them. He favorite dvd, though, is the baby sign language one, even though he isn't signing yet. I noticed the other day I have been letting him watch the one for "12 months and above" so I took it out and put in the "6 months" one. He looses interest very quickly with that one so we are back to watching the "12 months" dvd. He will watch that one all the way through. I can't help it if my baby is the smartest ever!
I think that’s all for now. I noticed the other day that I have taken over 1000 pictures with my camera since Jay’s been born. Of course, a lot of them have been deleted but still, I think I am obsessive.
Also, in case you were wondering, to see old posts and pictures scroll down to the last post on the page and click on “older posts.” Just keep hitting it and it will bring them up one by one. I know all of you just sit around all day staring at old pics of Jay….seriously I just thought the grandparents would like to know this. :)

More jumping

Sorry for another clip of Jay in his jumper but I wanted you to see our new game. He gets so excited he just starts screaming. I try to scream back to get him going and it usually works. The point of the jumper, like most of his toys, is to distract him so I can get some things done. However, I find myself sitting next to him on the floor 9 times out of 10 just to watch the show.

By the way, after all of the jumping that day I noticed a blister on Jay's toe! I felt soooo bad. I should have thought about that before. Needless to say, Jay wears socks and shoes before getting in now. Maybe with our second child I won't feel like such an idiot sometimes. ;)
